1F - Sanbongi Plateau Reclamation Corner

Sanbongi Plateau Reclamation Corner  At the end of the Edo Era, Tsuto Nitobe, his son Jujiro, and his grandson Shichiro, all Nanbu Clansmen, built the Inaoigawa Canal from the Oirase River to the Sanbongi Field (now in Towada City).  In addition to completing the canal, they planned a grid-style city, which  made possible the birth of Towada City, whose population is now about 63,000.
On the first floor, many survey maps and records of the reclamation project, tools used in digging the canal, and other artifacts used in the construction of the canal and city are exhibited.
