The Statue of Otome

The Statue of Otome is a bronze work of a pair of nude maidens. Sculpted by Kotaro Takamura, a famous poet as well as an artist, the statue was placed by Aomori Prefecture to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Lake Towada’s designation as a national park and to recognize the service of the poet Keigetsu Omachi (who introduced Lake Towada to the world), Chiyosaburo Takeda (then-governor of Aomori), and Koichi Ogasawara (the village mayor). Placed near the statue, a poem dedicated to the Statue of Otome is preserved in stone. The poem expresses the sculptor's feelings about the statute.
